Frequently asked questions
- Which edition of APA does this follow?
- APA 7th edition (the current edition) — including its specific author-list rules (2 authors joined with "&", 3-20 authors comma-separated, 21+ authors truncated with "..." before the final author) and its initials-first editor-name order inside an edited book chapter's "In ... (Eds.)," segment.
- Why do some parts of the citation appear in italics?
- APA italicizes journal names and volume numbers, and book titles (including an edited book's title inside a chapter citation) — everything else stays in regular text. The "Copy as HTML" button preserves that formatting when pasted into a word processor; the plain "Copy" button uses *asterisks* around the same segments as a plain-text stand-in.
- What if a source has no listed author?
- Leave the Author(s) field blank — the citation starts directly with the date instead, which is the standard APA fallback for author-less web content.
- Does this generate in-text citations too?
- No — this generates the full reference-list entry (what goes in your paper's References section). In-text citations are a separate, shorter format not covered by this tool.
- Is anything I type here sent to a server?
- No. The citation is generated entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to WebCodeIn's servers, logged, or stored.
